SUMMARY:Joint IAEA–GIF Technical Meeting on the Safety of HTGR
DESCRIPTION:The Joint IAEA–GIF Technical Meeting on the Safety of HTGR will be held in Vienna\, from 9-11 December 2019.  \nThe International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Generation IV International Forum (GIF) have jointly committed to collaboration between their respective programmes\, and to share information in selected areas of mutual interest. One of the key areas of emphasis in both the GIF and the IAEA programmes is the safety of liquid metal cooled fast reactors\, with cooperation since 2010. A particularly important area of mutual interest is the harmonization of safety approaches\, safety requirements\, Safety Design Criteria (SDC)\, and Safety Design Guidelines (SDG) for the next-generation advanced reactors under development worldwide. Using the cooperation on the safety of liquid metal cooled fast reactors as a reference model\, this event will represent the first activity to do the same for High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactors (HTGRs). The IAEA has recently concluded a five year Coordinated Research Project on modular HTGR Safety Design. The working material from this project will serve as the starting point for the technical discussions and further development of SDC and SDG for very high temperature reactors (VHTRs) within the joint. \nThe main objectives of the event are to discuss the working material of the coordinated research project on modular HTGR safety design; to share information on the implementation of SDG for VHTRs/HTGRs by designers of innovative concepts; and to discuss the further joint development of the SDC and SDG. \nREGISTRATION & VENUE DETAILS\n
